Local sterilisation drive: 86+ Lives Changed!

Over two incredible days –kicking off on Mandela Day, and continuing on Monday, 21 July – we hosted a local sterilisation drive for the communities of Brooklyn, Ysterplaat & surrounds. The amazing team from EnviroVet CVC handled all the sterilisations and set up right here in our office. Thanks to the generous sponsorship from PUMA , we were able to sterilise 86 dogs and cats in total, whose owners simply could not afford it.

We also plan on adding in a few more sterilisations for dogs & cats in need over our next few sterilisation days at the office. We get daily calls about cats breeding in and around the area, receiving requests to help with kittens and unwanted cats almost weekly. Not to mention the heartbreaking cases of dog neglect we have come across right on our doorstep.

This drive was also completed just in time to help curb the upcoming cat breeding season, which typically peaks around September. However, many unsterilised cats have already gone missing in search of mates.

Shocking fact: Just over these two sterilisation days, we prevented the birth of 27 feline fetuses that would’ve been born in the next few weeks… (All very early stages)

Besides for there not being enough homes, birth complications are common, often causing suffering, not only for the mom cats, but also for the kittens. Sterilisation remains the only proactive solution to curb overpopulation and its consequences.

Each sterilised pet also went home with a blanket sponsored PUMA and a food parcel (pellets & tins) sponsored by Montego Pet Nutrition , helping their families care for them during recovery.
