Project Graafwater Maintenance Phase

Project Graafwater – Maintenance Phase – Funded by the National Sterilization Project and led by African Tails – November 2025

Over just two incredible days, 94 animals were sterilised in Graafwater!

This forms part of the ‘maintenance phase’, in respect of NSP’s focus on Pet Population Management – the initial sterilisation of 70 – 80% of the pet population and thereafter annual sterilisations of at least 100 animals in this area to keep the breeding population under control.

Together with last year’s efforts and a previous campaign, we’ve now reached a total of 845 animals sterilised in Graafwater so far!

Again, during this maintenance phase, each animal also received an aftercare pack that included:

  • Dry & soft food
  • A core vaccination + rabies vaccine
  • Flea, tick & deworming treatment

Many received extra food and basic treatments too.

We were overjoyed to see how much the dogs’ overall condition has improved! Some of the animals we checked up on, who were previously of concern, are now looking so much healthier and happier.

Our ongoing work in Graafwater over the past two years is truly making a lasting difference — fewer unwanted litters, healthier animals, and a stronger, more compassionate community.

We’re also continuing to follow up on those who still need welfare support, working closely with LEAPS to ensure that every animal in need of intervention is reached.

Luckily we managed to save a few lives along the way. These lucky ones are now in foster care.

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who donated – whether you sponsored an aftercare pack or made a general contribution, you helped make this possible.

And of course, thank you to the National Sterilization Project for funding the sterilisations, and to the Vetsol team for their smooth, efficient, and compassionate work throughout the campaign.

Here’s to less unwanted dogs and cats, healthier pets, and a community that keeps growing stronger!
